It may be a winter wonderland outside right now, but in the fashion world spring has already sprung. While some like to hunt deer, I like to hunt for a great fashion bargain. But before any shopping can begin, we have to check out the latest trends.
While in recent years fashion has seen women borrowing from men (think boyfriend jeans and military coats), this spring’s fashion brings with it a return to femininity. I for one am glad to say hello again to fashion that allows girls to dress like girls again. No more borrowing from the boys!
From bold prints to bright hues, soft pastels to African-inspired prints, the runways have come alive for spring. Of course, fashion is always interesting to watch as it goes down the runway, and it can leave you wondering, “How on earth do I wear that trend?” But that’s the beautiful thing about fashion – you can be as simple or as bold as you like with a trend.
So, how do you avoid being a fashion victim? Keep it simple. Pick one element to incorporate into your wardrobe. While top designers sent head to toe floral down the runway, you can take a floral print top and pair it with your favorite skinny jeans and you’re right on trend.
If you’re still a little worried, don’t despair. This spring’s fashions are actually very wearable.
- 1920’s look – I loved these looks that filled the runways at the New York Fashion Show. It was all about modest lengths, feathers, art deco beading and sequins. I know you’re thinking you don’t want to look like you’re on your way to a “Great Gatsby” costume party! Again, it’s about incorporating just one element. To take the twenties for a twenty-first century spin, look for drop waists, sorbet colors, or just add a sequin top to a basic pant.
- Color blocking – While the color blocked look is far from new, it was back with a bang on the runways for spring. If you’re not sure if you can pick the right colored separate pieces yourself, simply buy a color-blocked dress. You’ll look like a fashion genius without putting any work into it. Just be sure to look for colors that work with your skin tone. While bright hues worn together will add instant style to any outfit, just remember to avoid looking like a rainbow; stick to a maximum of two to three different colors.
- Stripes – Stripes of all sizes are huge right now, and are popping up in all of the department stores. Don’t shy away from this trend; worn the right way they can actually enhance your figure. For an up-to-date look, try pairing a striped blouse with solid white pants or a simple and elegant slip dress with vertical panels. It’s sure to flatter any figure.
- Shoes – We can’t talk fashion without taking a minute to discuss shoes. Who doesn’t love a fabulous pair of heels? But if just the thought of four-inch heels makes your feet hurt, then you’re going to love the return of the kitten heel. With just enough height to make you look taller and slimmer, minus the pain of high heels, these will be a welcome addition to your wardrobe. Pair them with any of these fabulous spring trends and you’ll look like you just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

I’m looking forward to some more feminine designs as well! I’m normally not in touch with fashion on a regular basis, but it’s nice to have you keep me up on things!!
